Throw Together!

So we are in holidays in Tasmania ( we live in South Australia) and it’s definitely been tricky to manage the glucose levels ! Last night we went out for dinner for a special family occasion and levels spiked above 20. This is NOT something we like to happen often so tonight , it’s a throw together of left overs with veggies added.

As you can see this throw together of a meal while staying in a caravan park is filled with carbs yet also veggies and a little fish . The lasagne, pasta and noodles were all left over from last night and the veggies added in today. We felt MUCH less sick as compared to last night ( a pub meal filled with lots of yummy yet rich , heavy, non diabetes appropriate foods ! ). Being away, yes we could go out to every night but choose better for ourselves which is definitely reflected in the glucose levels !!

As you can see this is a 24 hr snapshot which clearly shows the spike in glucose around midnight. This was managed with extra insulin however the whole situation is not ideal ! This screenshot was taken at 858pm and dinner was consumed around 7pm . Despite higher levels during the day (again not ideal) , the hope is to have steadier levels… which 2 hrs post meal - we seem to !

Overnight - levels remained steady as hoped . Much better than the spikes !!

Conclusion

Managing diabetes on holiday is definitely challenging however , we just do our best with the choices we have ! Portion size is a key factor ☺️. Staying active while away is also important to try to counter act the naughty foods . We shouldn’t have to feel guilty about splurging once in awhile - but consistency in making better choices is crucial !!!
